How We Rate Products

Our Principles

ValueForMoney accepts no sponsored posts, brand deals, or payments from manufacturers. Our reviews are based on thorough spec analysis, real user reviews sourced from Amazon and brand forums, and after-sales service evaluation. Our ratings reflect genuine research — not manufacturer claims or paid endorsements.

How We Select Products

We focus on home & kitchen products available in India via Amazon.in or authorised dealers. Product selection follows a structured process:

  • We identify categories with high search volume and genuine buyer interest in India
  • Within each category, we shortlist products based on Amazon.in availability, recent launch dates, and relevance to Indian consumers
  • We prioritise products with at least a moderate number of user reviews to ensure sufficient data for analysis
  • We include a range of price points — from budget picks to premium options — so every buyer finds something relevant
  • We retire reviews when products are discontinued or unavailable for more than 3 months

Data Sources

Every review draws from multiple data sources to build a complete picture:

  • Official manufacturer spec sheets and product pages for technical specifications
  • Amazon.in product listings for current pricing, availability, and verified purchase reviews
  • Brand-specific forums and community discussions for long-term reliability insights
  • BIS/BEE certifications for energy efficiency ratings (especially for ACs, refrigerators, and washing machines)
  • Service centre databases for after-sales support coverage assessment

Review Process

Each review goes through these stages:

    Spec Analysis: We compile detailed specifications for every product and compare them across standardised criteria — capacity, energy efficiency, build materials, features, and dimensions.

    User Review Mining: We read and cross-reference hundreds of real user reviews from Amazon.in and brand forums. We look for consistent patterns — recurring complaints, frequently praised features, and long-term reliability feedback.

    After-Sales Evaluation: We assess warranty terms, service centre availability across India (including tier-2 and tier-3 cities), and customer support responsiveness based on user reports.

    Price Tracking: We check prices weekly against Amazon.in and update our reviews when significant price changes occur. We also note seasonal pricing trends and recommend the best times to buy.

    Rating & Ranking: Products are scored on a 10-point scale using weighted criteria specific to each category. The weights are always disclosed in the review so you can see exactly how we arrived at each score.

    Editorial Review: Every review goes through a final editorial pass for accuracy, clarity, and consistency before publication.

Rating System

All products are rated on a 10-point scale. Each review specifies its own rating criteria and weights — because the right criteria for a budget washing machine differ from a premium air conditioner. The criteria and their weights are always shown transparently in the "How We Rated" section of each review.

Common criteria include:

  • Performance: Core function — cooling capacity for ACs, wash quality for washing machines, picture quality for TVs
  • Energy Efficiency: BEE star rating, ISEER/EER values, annual power consumption
  • Build Quality: Materials, weight, condenser type, anti-corrosion coatings, overall durability
  • Smart Features: WiFi, app control, voice assistant support, convertible modes
  • After-Sales Service: Warranty terms, service centre coverage, customer support quality
  • Value for Money: Price-to-feature ratio, long-term ownership costs, warranty value

Not all criteria appear in every review — we adjust based on what matters most for each product category.

Update Cadence

Reviews are updated on a regular basis:

  • Prices are checked weekly against Amazon.in and updated when changes exceed 5%
  • Product availability is monitored — we flag out-of-stock items and add alternatives when needed
  • Major review refreshes happen quarterly, or when new models launch that significantly change the competitive landscape
  • BEE star rating revisions trigger immediate review updates (as with the January 2026 AC rating changes)
  • Every review shows its last updated date prominently so you always know how current the information is

Conflict of Interest Policy

We maintain strict editorial independence:

  • We do not accept payment from manufacturers for reviews, ratings, or product placement
  • We do not accept free products or review samples from brands
  • Our affiliate commission structure is identical across all brands — we have no incentive to favour one brand over another
  • Rating decisions are made before affiliate links are added to ensure no bias in recommendations
  • If we ever have a potential conflict of interest, we will disclose it prominently in the relevant review
